As a Southern California girl, born and raised, I accept that “seasons”, in the traditional sense of the word, don’t exist for our neck of the woods.
So, as a flexible person who accepts and adapts, I delight in the little changes—longer days in the spring/summer; cooler nights in the late fall and winter. I’m giddy when it rains and the temps dip into the forties at night during the winter months and I literally dance during the foggy mornings that clear to cool and somewhat crisp days of early spring.
That said, winter is a favorite. I’ve always identified with Rhoda Morgenstern’s sentiment (Mary Tyler Moore Show), “I moved to Minneapolis from Brooklyn, it’s colder, I figured I’d keep better”. I love fall/winter clothes; turtlenecks, scarves, wool jackets/blazers and warm boots.
Winter 2011/2012 has been fairly warm and dry. We had a little smattering of rain recently, but not enough to be overly excited. I confess, I’m a little bit bummed.
So, I’ve been losing myself in my files of images of warm, cozy room, fire ablaze, thoughts of a good book and frost on the window pane (which never happens here anyway, but I have an active imagination!).

This post really hit home with me since we’ve been snowed in for the past two days. The cozy rooms and roaring fire have been really welcome. Like you, I like winter. There’s something about the quiet of falling snow and the crystalline beauty it leaves behind. Happy Winter to you too!

I love the rain and it’s made everything look so clean and pretty. Maybe my whine helped nudge Mother Nature since we are expected to have a bit more tonight…then 80 degrees on Thursday. Such is winter in paradise.

We finally got a touch of rain Saturday morning with more expected tonight, but its supposed to reach nearly 80 degrees this coming week…crazy. My newly trimmed roses are starting to leaf!

Would you believe it was 65 at my house today. It has been so warm flowers are budding out on my azaleas and it is way too early.
Karen, having tea in front of a fire is so appealing. We’ve been having tea multiple times every day in H.K. but we have yet to see a fireplace despite the cold weather. I guess it’s only cold (in the 50′s) here in January and February. The rest of the year it’s so hot and steamy that most building don’t even have heat! I’ll take our California weather any time.
I love this post. I live in New York and love the change of season. Do I get a bit tired of the bitter cold? Sometimes, but the truth is I love the changes. I love how you embrace the bits of winter you experience.

Our oldest son and his lovely wife lived in NY for 2 years and each visit was more fun than the next for a lot of reasons, seasonal changes one of them! Lucky you to get Mother Nature’s way of changing out her “home” each 3 or 4 months!

LOL! Many of my eastern seaboard friends tell me that should I be forced to live in the sometimes bitter cold of winter I’d be cured of my complaining about warm weather in winter. It’s a romantic ideal, to be sure, for me…the whole, snow, roaring fire, etc.
