Note of Appreciation: Some time ago my blog friend Leslie of Around the Table had a giveaway. Winner would receive one of the fabulous candle holders called Glassybaby. These beauties are made in Seattle and come in nearly every color under the sun. Well, imagine my delight and surprise, I won. {Thank you Leslie} If you’ve not already discovered Around the Table blog site, stop by. Leslie shares fabulous design ideas, great (and healthy) recipes and skin care information. Did I mention she has a degree in nutrition and is a licensed medical aesthetician. Most importantly, her posts are always useful and fun!

→Hi Everyone. I feel so much better. Seriously, to those readers that host a blog, don’t you sometimes feel like you’ve run out of ideas for a new post…in fact, I sometimes think, “what frivolous topics I gab on about, what am I thinking?” That’s what vacations are for. The break brought home that the fun of this is the blog friends and readers that check in, even if they don’t comment, and the creative wheels that turn each time I work on a post. So, thank you for your interest, friendship (of an internet variety) and support. I so appreciate it.
Are we there yet…has autumn arrived? I don’t care if it is still warmer than ideal fall weather should be, I’m sharing my annual autumn favorites. [It reminds me of back-to-school, when the new sweater was worn that first week back because you loved it and didn’t care if it was 90 degrees outside]
If you missed my fall favorites last year, have a look. You’ll see I haven’t changed much of what appeals to me about the season, other than to add additional images. 10 photographs just wouldn’t allow me all that I love about this time of year.
I always pause before stating this is my favorite season because when spring comes around, I think this is my favorite season! But it’s September 25th and I’m looking forward to the short weeks from now when I can expect to wear turtleneck sweaters, put a fire in the fireplace, have a casserole in the oven and a hot beverage in my hand.
Enjoy!
Have you visited this shop yet? Check it out ~ terrain
Sitting by a fire, what could be more cozy? Having reason to stay indoors and read a book or two, one more reason to love cooler weather.
I love turtleneck sweaters…this is definitely a reason to love autumn/winter.
Fall/Winter means comfort food for me. I use portion control to avoid winter waist expansion, but here are a couple of recipes that you might enjoy when it cools down…
Maybe a ride in the convertible (that I don’t own) with Madison…
Finally, the promise of Christmas and…
…on January 5th in the U.S, the return of Downton Abbey
Do you have a favorite season or a favorite thing about each season?
HAPPY AUTUMN

Welcome back! I am sitting here in my gray turtleneck sweater and jeans and loving ALL your photos! Definitely adore all the coziness that this season brings. The photo of that fountain with the sitting area and trees ablaze with color…wow! What I love the best about autumn is that brisk air first thing in the morning that makes one feel so alive. The heat of summer here is oppressive, so I am ready for some cooler temps.

Kelly, I’m jealous, we’re not quite there yet (sweater weather). The evenings and mornings have been cool so I’m happy with anticipation that turtleneck weather during the day is right around the corner. There is a chill in the air first thing in the morning that always energizes me this time of year. 😀 xo, Karen

Hey! I missed you! So glad you’re back, even if you’re bringing fall with you (BOO, and not the Halloween kind.)
That Terrain store is an offshoot of Anthropologie, right? I think I got an email from them saying– hey! Sign up to get notifications of house stuff you don’t need! But will want to buy anyway!!!
p.s.- Downton Abbey! Hooray!
Karen B. said:
I didn’t realize Terrain is affiliated with Anthropologie. That explains the really pretty marketing they publish. Like you with shiny objects, put a pretty vignette together, price it through the roof and I’m drooling. 😀 Thanks, I did miss the routine of the process and the contact with my blog friends. xo, Karen

My husband and I have been catching up on our Downton Abbey dvd’s. I think I need to move to England now! Love your fall favorites, and I’m a big fan of Terrain as well. Enjoy the season!

Julie, My son offered to download the British televised version for me (Downton Abbey) which begins the 4th series in October. I may turn down the offer, I’d have no one to discuss each episode with!:D Happy fall. Karen

Debra, I’d love to see your work up close. It was your Christmas urns, found in a post years ago, that I’ve copied every Christmas by my front door! Hooray, it’s fall. Have a great install today and thanks, as always for stopping by. xo, Karen

Hi Karen,
Such a beautiful fall post! It’s been in the forties at night here in Seattle .. so I think the heater will be going on soon and I’ll be shutting the windows:) I’m pulling out sweaters and back to the boots! Gorgeous Fall images and perfect (with my coffee;) on this chilly morning.
You are so sweet to mention me here this morning Karen. I appreciate your friendship and hope you are enjoying your glassybaby.
Have a fun and productive day! xxL
Karen B. said:
Thanks, Leslie. Yes, I plan to take some pictures this weekend with my glassybaby lit by candle. It’s a pretty color for the fall/winter months ahead. 40 degrees sounds heavenly, sweater/boot weather, a warm mug of coffee—bliss. xo, Karen

Beautiful Post. It’s still excruciatingly hot down here in Houston, but your pictures made me want to build a fire! Thanks for the chill.

Thanks, Casey. It’s not quite turtleneck weather here either. Southern California is always slow to join the autumn party.
Thanks for stopping by.

Karen,
How wonderful to see your new post today and such a wonderful one! Like you, I love Fall and your wonderful images just made my day. Our weather has a definite chill to it and the leaves are starting to change. I’ve been dusting off my Fall clothes and finally had to turn on the heater. Glassybaby is a great store in University Village. We’ll visit it on your next trip to Bainbridge. Congratulations on winning one of their wonderful candles. I’m envious!

Lucky you, we’re still experiencing warm days but at least the evenings have cooled quite a bit. I’m ready to bake, who cares if it’s warm outside, right? 😀 Karen

Karen, now you have me fired up for fall! I just returned from St. Louis and it was in the mid-80s–I feel so done with that! Love that planted urn. Congrats on your Glassybaby. I live in Glassybabyland yet I have none … I should do something about that!
Karen B. said:
D’Arcy, I didn’t know you lived in one of my favorite regions of the country! Wait, maybe I did, but just was so intrigued by your remodel I forgot. The Glassybaby is really cool…I requested the black one but I had a hard time narrowing it down. We are experiencing 85 degrees today…the evening cools to 58 so I’m holding out hope for cooler days soon. Karen

Hi Karen,
I’m new to your site . . . and love the warm, beautiful Fall-inspired photos you shared in this post. I absolutely love the wreath with the pheasant feathers. I’m making a similar one for a wreath that I will be hanging in my living room for the Fall season.
Looking forward to future posts.
Have a beautiful weekend,
Suzanne

Karen…we had a pool party at our home on Saturday…it was hotter than heck….and today I’m writing a post on Fall….Silly huh!

I know, it always feels a little fake to be singing the benefits of fall in my posts when I’m in shorts and flip flops, but if we waiting until it was truly crisp and cold it would time for turkeys and a nod towards Christmas. The evenings have been nice and cool. 🙂 Karen

Karen, I finally got my taste of Fall on my brief trip to Seattle. It rained almost continuously for the four days we were there. Perfect weather for soup, a roaring fire and a good book. I loved every minute! Your beautiful nod to autumn was waiting for me when I returned home -thanks!

Gretchen, As we live the roller coaster of fall/summer this month, I’m so jealous. Linda might just find the 2 of us standing at her doorstep if the fall doesn’t begin in earnest! xo, Karen
