As we frantically calmly move toward year’s end, and one of my favorite times of year {who doesn’t love Christmas or what ever Winter Holiday celebration you enjoy?}I thought it would be fun to share some ideas for wrapping presents, setting a pretty table, and sharing rooms that evoke a cozy atmosphere over the weeks ahead. I’m starting this 3-week series with:
Gift Wrap Ideas.
If you’re like me you need to figure out not only ideas for wrapping presents for family and close friends, but you also probably need a few items for hostess gifts. The cookie exchange, a ladies’ lunch, or a Christmas dinner party…these gift wrap ideas are especially fun for little gift items, like a special bar of soap, scented candle or pretty scented hand cream and lip balm for the purse, those little presents are especially fun to wrap. Good things really do come in small packages!
The creative gift wrap ideas seem equally worthy for gifts that go under the tree, they are so pretty they would enhance that space under the branches of a decorated tree.
How to wrap a wine bottle from Ann on Sutton Place is a no-sew idea for a hostess gift. You can always find great looking kitchen towels at TJ Maxx, Cost Plus or Marshall’s and Ann explains how to wrap a bottle of wine, no sewing required, in said towel. Suddenly, a bottle of wine is a gift with a bonus!
So many gift wrap ideas involve butcher paper. I love it’s simplicity and when paired with a sprig of holly or a red berry wreath it’s a win-win.
A little sparkle goes a long way. I love the beautiful, large bows that so many packages are dressed with, but these simple touches share the wow factor too, don’t you think?
Bonus gift, like the kitchen towel-wrapped wine, this little package is fun since it comes with a candy cane!
How pretty is this?
Most of the above gift wrap ideas have been in my file for some time and I apologize for not having a link to all of them. Hopefully, they will give you some ideas that are simple to implement.
Week 1: I hope you’re better organized than me! I really need to get going, I have the tree up and most of the decorations but gift buying is still in the planning stages. Enjoy the week!

In the past, most gifts were not placed under the tree until Christmas morning. Now that the kids are grown I intend to have a little more fun wrapping. I’ve even gone so far as to buy some fun paper and ribbon so we will see if I can get that done in my spare time;) ….. between 2 and 3 a.m. ha!
Happy Wednesday!

Leslie, I’ve always wrapped and when Santa used to visit the next morning, we had to make sure his paper was different. Now that there’s two little one’s the fun begins anew. I’m pretty sure Frozen paper will have to be part of the mix this year! I hope things at your home are beginning to fall into place and that you can eek out some time to relax and enjoy the season. xo, Karen

My favorite is the brown paper with black ribbon and simple greenery!!
I swore that this year I was going to be all done EVERYTHING by the first week in Dec, so that I would actually enjoy the holiday without feeling stressed about time… that has NOT happened. Next year I need to give myself a Sept deadline. Maybe then I’ll actually finish by Christmas.
Karen B. said:
Since everything Christmas went up in the stores around back to school time, you shouldn’t have any trouble getting the necessary supplies for a September deadline. I want some glitter and disco balls…I want them to make my house look like shiny snow is falling. Your house really did look fabulous! Karen

Perfect timing, Karen- like everybody else, I have not yet begun to wrap. I love letting a beautiful ribbon and greenery be the star instead of the paper, now that we’re past the days of Dora the Explorer and Winnie the Pooh! Love that black ribbon on the package- would never have thought to use it, but it looks so elegant.

Vicki, I keep promising myself I will do butcher paper and keep it simple. Then, the after Christmas gift wrap sale happens at The Container Store and I’m sunk. Maybe next year! Happy December, my friend. Karen

Oh, Karen! I love reading your posts, just brimming with ideas! My favorite is the kraft paper, tied with twine, with evergreens and holly from the garden tucked in. Simply perfect!! We are all decorated, inside and out. Today I finished the front porch, by tying a bundle of evergreens, holly, and dried hydrangeas on our antique sled. Now I am starting on our Christmas cards. Wishing you a lovely Christmas season! ♡
Karen B. said:
Dawn, That bundle you described is undoubtedly lovely. I really enjoy the simplicity of natures bounty when decorating. Sometimes, when her bounty isn’t available I’ll buy it or use faux. We live where there are huge pines that drop pinecones from September forward so that gives me a good starting point. I have 2 holly bushes in the back yard. No evergreen but that’s easily remedied. Have fun with your cards…enjoying a bit of Christmas music while you write? xo, Karen

We drew names this year…it’s really been simple and now all I’m doing is shopping for Olivia and Fae. This will be the fun stuff. That said, I don’t have my tree up and I have nothing like your reasons (running a landscape business and 2 shops!) for dragging my feet. I’m determined to chill this year and enjoy the season, even if it means wrapping presents on the 24th! Stay warm and have a jolly month. xo, Karen P.S. I spent a fair amount of time lost in your Pinterest boards yesterday, so many pretty things! Time wasting? Maybe, but so fun.

I love those do not open until Christmas tags! So many great ideas
Karen B. said:
Thanks, Cindy. I downloaded a template of the leaping reindeer and am making my own tags this year. I was inspired by dear lillie’s package with the black reindeer. So much fun. Now Mary Ann at Classic Casual Home has me wanted to try my hand at a homemade wreath. I need more hours in the day. 🙂 xo, Karen

Hello Karen,
You show some beautiful ideas here, thank you. I especially like the ones that include a little something from Mother Nature, who always provides us with the most beguiling embellishments in the form of sprigs of this or that.
I’m impressed that your tree is up already. In our household, we wait until the week before Christmas.
Karen B. said:
Hi CD, I have heard of that tradition before but am always selfishly wanting to enjoy the tree throughout the month. Do you honor the boxing day traditions? Have a wonderful weekend. Karen

Karen,
This post was so timely for me because I’d been fretting about wrapping ideas. I’d forgotten how butcher paper could make great wrapping paper. I also loved the sprigs of greenery attached to the bows. Lovely! My favorite was the tiny wreath tied to the package. JoAnne’s here I come!
Karen B. said:
Thanks, Linda. I do love butcher paper because you can customize it any way you like. The packages with the sprigs of green are so simple and pretty. xo, Karen

BONJOUR, KAREN! How I am loving the natural elements you are sharing here to embellish a gift. For years, we have been using brown paper bags to wrap gifts and then top them off with twine and some natural element. A sweet peppermint candy cane is a great idea too as well as a keepsake tag.
Thank you so much for coming to visit me! I hope you are enjoying a restful and surprise-filled weekend! Anita
