*I know I posted images of table settings for Thanksgiving, but I really love the inspiration for something a bit different each time I get to set the table for a dinner or lunch. I hope you’re able to retrieve some inspiration for your holiday entertaining.
One week down, already! Let’s all take a collective deep breath and slow down. We need to enjoy the beauty that the season has to offer. Make time to sip hot cocoa or a cup of tea as you review your ‘to do’ list.
This week I’m sharing table settings dressed for the season. I realized a long time ago that while I thoroughly enjoy setting a table, most guests are in your home to share some quality time with you, and while they may subconsciously enjoy the lovely setting, its not as important as you may think it is. That doesn’t keep me from always trying to make it as special as possible, but it does mean we can all relax and keep it simple. It’s all about enjoying the moment this year.
This is my table for most Christmas entertaining. The center piece is made up of a bronze reindeer I purchased one winter while visiting a friend in Snowmass, CO. I love him and I have a florist set him in a low container with florist foam and then it’s filled with various evergreen pine and pine cones and faux berries. As long as it’s watered as needed, it lasts the entire month.
{This is last year’s arrangement, this year I went with white berries, pheasant feathers and pinecones. I’d love to say that it’s still at the florist, but it is in fact sitting on my dining room table. It’s just been a crazy week and I did not get a picture of it!}
This is such a lovely, simple place setting, don’t you agree? White twinkle lights and candlelight, what could be better?
Candlelight, whether achieved with flameless candles or real, makes any tablescape magical.
{sorry, unknown}
You can never go wrong with plaid for Christmas! Throw in a few nutcrackers and you have the perennial favorite for the season.
I like the rustic coasters and name card, paired with sheet music. I wonder if this is for a caroling party? Wouldn’t that be a fun idea?
This is really a great way to introduce some plaid to the table, a couple of plaid throws doing double duty as table toppers. I do love an English styled room for the holidays. So inviting.
All white, even the Christmas trees are set with white lights and nothing else. It’s simply elegant.
Delores over at Vignette Design always sets a pretty table.
Rustic is a favorite look of mine, this setting makes me think it’s a house in a beautiful mountain town….hmm, I wonder.
This is my table set for New Years Eve last year.
What do you like to set the table with this time of year?
I hope you’ll tune in for next week’s installment—“Christmas Cozy”. Rooms that are sure to invite you in and help you relax, all the while in a cozy setting.

Julie, I’ve noticed a bit of a trend in blog land, even on the talented designer sites (like yours) an appreciation of ‘simplicity/natural’ adornments. It fits for me, I love using natures bounty with a few sparkles to honor the season. 🙂 xo, Karen

I love all of these… But particularly your reindeer centerpiece!!!
You gave me a whole new idea!! It was seeing the combination of your centerpiece and a little further down some sort of urn. I JUST acquired some small urns that would be perfect filled with mixed greenery like yours… now I will make my 9,000th holiday trip to the craft store because the one supply I do not have is florist foam.

Perfect, you’ve made my day. I mean, turn about is fair play, I found myself with a package of disco ball ornaments yesterday while shopping for a new pillow for my bed. I blame you! 🙂 Karen

I always love your table setting ideas Karen, where do you find these photos? So many great little ideas to inspire me. I love your reindeer centerpiece too, so dramatic and beautiful. I’m so attracted to the greens lately maybe because I just moved away from all that lush foliage of Northern Cal hahaha
hugs,
Leslie

Leslie, Most of the images are from fellow bloggers but sometimes I find worthwhile table settings in the online magazine sites. I do love the fact that we fellow Californian’s can usually go with nature’s bounty. No snow to trudge through to find some great looking greens for the season. 🙂 Thanks for being my blog friend, I always enjoy your joining the conversation. xo, Karen

Gorgeousness. I love your white table with the live cyclamen. I have an urn with greenery on my table, but now I’m thinking some woodland friends might make that greenery less lonely…. 🙂

Dancer or Prancer perhaps? 🙂 I think my deer doesn’t have a name, I need to work on that. I hope your month is going smoothly. When do you leave for Christmas with your family in Indiana? xo, Karen

Your own table settings are just lovely, Karen! I also love the simplicity of the place setting on sheet music. Cyclamen are my favorite Christmas flowers! I fell in love with them years ago when I spent Christmas in Germany with dear friends. Now, just the sight of Cyclamen in bloom takes me right back to the Black Forest! We already have our Cyclamen plants blooming on our dining room table! Enjoy every moment of this special time of year! ♡
Karen B. said:
Dawn, Thank you. Cyclamen is one of my favorite winter flowers. They have become quite pricey, I’m not sure if it’s the drought that drove prices up, but I did manage to buy a few for the house. Germany is a country I have always wanted to visit. My husband (before we met) was stationed in Bamburg, Germany and we always planned to visit there. We instead became hooked on England and I confess each trip to Europe (or the British Isles, as it turned out) seemed to be there. We did see Paris but otherwise are more familiar with England. I hope you are having a jolly month of planning and preparing for celebration. xo, Karen

Karen, I have you to thank for the pheasant feathers in my table arrangement this year–nice touch! I, too prefer natural elements at this time of year because I like to celebrate the Winter Solstice. I also like your reindeer arrangement. It reminds me of floral arrangements that my florist grandma made for our family. Good Christmas memories!
Karen B. said:
Thanks, D’Arcy, I should have gotten my centerpiece photographed (from this year) since I did the evergreens and pine cones but added white berries..the week got away from me and I was determined to post today. I will probably post it next year! 🙂 Aren’t the pheasant feathers fun in arrangements? Did you get them through Amazon? I hope December is going well for you and Eric. xo, Karen

Karen,
Loved these table settings! The sheet music place mats were a wonderful idea. I also loved the tartan on some of the tables — so festive. One of my favorite pics was the first one in the post, with the wine glass adorned with ribbon and a small ornament. So clever! The only problem is . . . why can’t I ever come up with great ideas like this? I suppose that’s why I rely on you and you’ve never let me down. Thank you, my friend.

Linda, Well, you know what they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I’ve been flattering those more creative than me for years! 🙂 xo, Karen

Good evening, Karen! HELLO! WOW, this is good. I am now in the mood to figure out how to set my table for NEW YEARS. Yes. For Christmas, it will just be me and my husband, but I’d love to have a few people over for the new year dinner and I can spy out some goodies I’d love to have on my table!
Thank you so much for your kind words. It is such a joy to correspond with so many great bloggers. Many wishes for the most beautiful celebration. HAPPY CHRISTMAS! Anita

Plaid, greens, and pine cones or all white and silvery, how can I choose when they both look so festive? Once again you’ve given me some wonderful ideas.
I always meant to ask you where your bronze reindeer came from. He’s the perfect focal point for your holiday table.
I hope you and your whole family have a Merry Christmas. See you New Years Eve!
Karen B. said:
Thanks, Gretchen. I found that reindeer on one of the trips to Aspen (Snowmass) during the summer. He wasn’t very expensive and he’s stood guard on our Christmas table every year since. 🙂 xo, Karen

Happy New Year, Karen!
Wow, I love all of these table settings, and I am still in the Christmas mood! I especially love the table setting with the large crown centerpiece with all of the candles!! It is stunning! I live in Orange County CA, and I haven’t seen a crown like that around the shops here. Do you know where I could find one like it to buy, or any ideas where I could look? I’d really appreciate your help finding one.
I look forward to your next beautiful blog!
Thank you so much.

Laura,
I’ve seen crowns like the one in the picture at Roger’s Gardens in Newport Beach.
Thanks for stopping by, Christmas passed too quickly. I love that time of year.
