Chairs…we all have at least a few of them where we live, right? A couple of my best friends make a hobby of collecting them. I confess, I’ve become more fascinated with chairs and their overall design of late and if it weren’t for the fact that there isn’t one square inch of space left in our home, I could see myself buying a few of the beauties I’ve posted here.
{Possibly my favorite chair…the ottoman makes this a ideal spot for me to relax and read. The room is a south-facing room so it’s usually light and warm in the winter months}
{I have more than one version of the chair above, I love the wood wings on the chair and the slope of the back}
{The chairs on either side of the fireplace are inviting and appear to be comfortable}
{The leather and nail head wing back chair above is something I think could fit in almost anywhere—it’s got a wing-back look but doesn’t have the bulk of a wing back chair}
It was a great coincidence for me that I had started a folder of pictures of chairs in anticipation of writing a post about the topic. Alison of The Polohouse invited her readers to join her “Favorites on the First” with talk of chairs.
{I love it when the planets align!}
{Circa designs via heirloom philosophy}
{This club chair came from a consignment store years ago, it’s been recovered more than once, this Ralph Lauren fabric is the latest. The chair is very comfortable, just ask Madison (our dog) who spends most of her day in it!}
{I love this chair (above) with the flannel plaid on the front and the leather on the back}
{Wicker is always a classic and while the back on this one could use a cushion, in my opinion, its a very pretty chair}
This version of a wing back chair was an instant favorite with the overstuffed seat and nail heads…
{Lydia Chair via Henhurst Interiors}
I love a chair with details, like above and below.
{Gregorius Pineo via T&G Interiors}
{Jane Moore via Cote de Texas}
I like the added beauty of wood and linen or leather on a chair.
Do you have a favorite chair? Do you like down-filled cushions? I’m always happy to hear from you!
I’m linking to Alison’s [The Polohouse] Favorites on the First…have a look.

Gorgeous chairs and a favorite of mine now is the spindle chair in the last image…dreaming of a great reading chair and ottoman like yours!!

Thanks, that chair is very comfy should you decide to pick up a couple. 🙂 I’m currently looking for a hall chair, perfectly flat seat, all wood, maybe a wonderful antique crest on the back…a faint dream, I believe. Happy Friday. Karen

Karen,
You know I have a obsession with lamps and my other obsession (ok I have many) is chairs. These are beautiful! The problem with a chair obsession is they cost more to buy lol.
Thanks for some great pics! Love them!

Sandra,
So true, one can always find a corner table or some surface in the house, but a chair requires some serious dollars and space. lol. I can relate to your obsessions. 🙂

Your chair inspiration intersects with me standing out in the garage yesterday and staring at an old chair I fell in LOVE with. It’s in terrible condition, I drove over an hour to get it, I overpaid for it (it really was true love)…
I got it home, bought fabric, started on it with ALL the enthusiasm you bring to a brand new project… (that same feeling we talked about with my chunky yarn scarf…) And its now been sitting out there for a YEAR. Every time I pass it I feel guilty. And stupid. But not at all motivated to actually FINISH it.
Still though, obviously I cannot throw it away…

Victoria, There will come a time when you decide to take it to the upholsterer or sell it on Craigslist. This is why I’ve stopped reading DIY blogs (except for yours, since I know I will never take on a project of that proportion and if I did I could never entertain my readers as well as you)! I do love making a silk purse out of a sows ear! xo, Karen

Leslie,
There are so many chairs and so few spaces left in my house. Thank goodness for Pinterest, you can feel as though you’ve spent time with a beautiful chair without trying to find said chair and a place for it! lol
Have a wonderful weekend, I hear your weather is supposed to be mild. (?)
xo,

Karen,
What wonderful pics of equally wonderful chairs. I loved the leather and nail-head trim wingback. I’ve always loved your club chair and the Ralph Lauren fabric looks fantastic!
I think my favorite chair will always be the bentwood rocker that I bought with money from my Disneyland job. I saved and saved in order to buy it and it survived re-painting (it was originally bright yellow!) and re-caning. I used to rock Ian to sleep in it. It was finally donated to Goodwill when it started to fall apart. I still miss that chair!

Linda, I remember that bentwood rocker, I had one as well. I finally could no longer justify it in our smallish family room and I too donated ours. I’ve recently been thinking about the bentwood kitchen chairs we had. I have thought I wished I’d kept them. Karen

Karen, while I have never really had a chair obsession, all of these are lovely. But my favorite out of them all are yours!! especially the one with the Ralph Lauren print. (Of course the red throw pulled me right over to it!)

Kelly, Thank you, I feel we have some very similar tastes in our decor style. I know I would be most comfortable as a guest in your home. And we both love red and some black and white. Thanks for such kind words! Hope you are having a great weekend. Karen

oh karen, there is much to covet here including your own cozy chairs.
a friend of mine in england once had a shop in london selling only chairs; one-off’s, vintage, re-upholstered, you name it, well excluding the mass produced. thought it was an intriguing retail concept.
cheers to you dearest

Debra, You are so sweet, thank you for your kind words. I do love some of the chairs I’ve posted. I would love a hall chair (I think they might be called hall monitors(?) They are flat-seated wood chairs with a back that sometimes has a crest…I saw a set years ago, but only wanted one. I’m sure they may be out of my price range at this time but it’s sure fun to search. I’d love to see a shop of chairs. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend, dear friend. Karen

Hi Karen,
Chairs, I have this thing about chairs too but have been curbing my habit the last few years. I have the chairs shown in your third image and they are extremely comfortable and my favorite place to land. Thank you for stopping by my blog because now I have yours to pop into as well!

What a beautiful post, Karen!
I love the RL comfy chair that you shared here.
I also love wingbacks and all the different styles and varieties
that you shared — especially the ones with the slightly sloped
backs. They look so comfy.
Gorgeous images!
Thanks so much for linking up to the party, friend.
Always love to see what you have got for us.

I am with you, I really don’t have a square inch in my house to entertain more chairs..but it makes me sad because aside from dining chairs, I have none, 😦 These are so beautiful. I love your consignment find, its so comfy, makes me want to curl up on it and read a Southern Living magazine. Of course I love the classic nail head trim wing back chairs, but that leather studded one really has my attention. Its so unique.
Karen B. said:
Christina, I agree the leather studded chair looks like an antique. Thanks for stopping by. Karen

I can see why that’s your place to sit and read. I love the table with all the dog details too….so warm and inviting. Haha Madison and Coco have much in common. I was late to the party but I still posted about a few of my chairs. I’m always several paces behind the crowd. As always you have a beautiful post!
Karen B. said:
Kathy, I love your little Coco. Madison is a mixed Jack Russell but she’s sweet, most of the time. Ha. I’ll stop by and check out your chairs. You know I love your house (what I’ve seen in your posts) so I’ll be interested to see what chair is your favorite. Thanks so much for your always supportive comments, it means so much to me! Karen

Karen, I love all the chairs you have posted here, but that chair covered in the Ralph Lauren fabric is my very favorite. I love it when the planets align, too! I’m so late “visiting” everyone from Favorites on the First. Yikes, it’s the fifth!
Karen B. said:
Ricki Jill, Thanks so much, it was a big step for me to upholster with that fabric but surprisingly, Mr. B liked it too. The upholsterer made it very comfy and it seems to be Madison’s (our Jack Russell mix) favorite chair. I know, where’s the time going to in such a hurry! 🙂 Karen

Karen, I’ve always had a thing for chairs as well. My first chair was a wingback with a flame stitch fabric. I thought it was so sophisticated! Then came the Windsor chairs. You and I have always loved that style. The lovely chairs in your post are like works of art! The beauty is in the details, don’t you think?
Karen B. said:
Gretchen, Your Windsor chairs were the inspiration for my purchase. Have you ever seen a wing back with the wood-backed wings and leather like I share in this post? Karen
Gretchen said:
No, I haven’t but it’s gorgeous! It’s so unique – I wonder if it’s an antique.
