This might be cheating, but today I’m simply sharing some Halloween images from Pinterest, blogland, and Martha. Those of you that adore this holiday probably already have your parties planned and decorations ready. It’s not my holiday…I enjoy the overall season, and I do like seeing the little trick-or-treaters at our door, but dressing up has never been my thing, so without further alienating the Halloween enthusiasts (many of them my friends)…
Leave it to Martha to pull off the good fairy costume with flair.
If I hosted a party, I’d definitely want to copy this cheerful vignette. Truthfully, we have these black birds (American Crow) in our neighborhood, what are the odds of training a few of them to sit around and look slightly menacing for an evening?
{Country Living – photograph by Matthew Benson}
There is something so welcoming about light radiating from all of the windows in this charming home.
{Country Living – photograph by John Kernick}
This is more my speed, white mums, a white lantern and a bushel of white pumpkins!
Mark D. Sikes…simply festive and elegant, as always.
Kim, at Tidbits and Twine creates a beautiful autumn table as well…
Craftberry Bush, in addition to this fabulous table arrangement, is the place to visit if you’re interested in good ideas for recipes/food for any autumn event.
So while we’re on the topic of a party, here are some really yummy looking sweets for a Halloween party:
Jenny over at Everyday Occasions has a ton of great recipes. Her iced sugar cookies are my favorite.
{Everyday Occassions – Jenny Steffens Hobick}
{Martha Stewart – Halloween Whoopie Pies}
and, what Halloween party would be complete without apple bobbing?
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
What’s on your schedule for this Friday night holiday?

teeehee…that sweet dog, so curious, such a party animal! It is fantastic to see a post from you, Karen! I love this time of year though I skip the décor for Halloween and keep it more on the fall side…then CHRISTMAS right after Thanksgiving! But the fun and food are hard to resist! Lovely photos (love the one of Martha in her costume!)
Have a super day! Anita

Anita, Is it because this is my favorite time of year that time seems to fly by? I’m attempting to delight in each day since I know this escalating time means Christmas will be here before we know it and I want to enjoy it all! Bet your weather is sweater weather already! Thank you for stopping by, I always enjoy our chats. 🙂 xo, Karen

ha,ha,ha. I would agree! However, MS certainly gives 100% to each holiday. You never sound like a bah humbug—but I’m focused on the season and hope this Friday flies by. 🙂 xo

Totally agree…Halloween has become a “Hallmark” holiday..way too many tacky decorations! Love the season and the fall decorations, like in most of the pictures you posted..also love seeing the kids dressed up, especially the little ones.
Karen B. said:
Rebecca, I seem to be moving in the opposite direction, the more plastic and tinsel the retailers peddle, the more of natures decorations I lean towards. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. xo

Wouldn’t it be fun to teach your dog to bob for apples? Enjoy your Halloween, my friend.

I love Halloween, but not the scary version. Around the corner from us, there is a house that erects this massive jail/madhouse/cemetery thing that I find REPULSIVE. I do not understand the appeal of severed plastic limbs… I feel bad for their neighbors every single year.
We will get LOADS of kids seeing as how it’s a Friday, but will close up shop early to head out dancing… Paul won’t dress up, but I’m not one to ever pass up the opportunity to wear something ridiculous!
Karen B. said:
How fun to go dancing after giving the little goblins their fill of candy. I’m curious as to whether this will be a big turnout for us this year or if because the day is a Friday will there be parties that keep the kids from going door-to-door. Happy Halloween, my friend. Karen

I’m still laughing about training the crows to sit around and look menacing. I’m with you, I’d much rather decorate with a Harvest sort of feel than a creepy one. That monogrammed pumpkin is just right.
Karen B. said:
Hi Vicki, I really liked the white setting with the lantern and mums all in white. I may try that next year. I do love this time of year so I’m appreciative that we have an excuse [Halloween] to decorate starting October 1st, otherwise with our spring like temps we might be tempted to wait until November 1st to decorate. xo, Karen

I’m with you with the whole Halloween thing, not really my cup of tea. However, I do love this time of year and love to decorate with natural gifts from nature (gourds, wheat, pumpkins). I think I’ve just seen one too many plastic-fantastic pumpkins and their ilk to put me off.
I shall, however, be handing out candy on Friday evening, and will send my daughter on her merry way to bother the neighbors for theirs.
Have a spooktacular time of it!

HI CD, I wonder if we’ll get our usual numbers of ghosts and goblins this year since it’s on a Friday. Sometimes there are parties for little tykes when Halloween isn’t on a school night. I hope we get plenty otherwise I may be battling the Halloween lbs after. 🙂 Karen

I love the silver pumpkin with the feather … what pretty textures! And the sweet golden, of course! It’s nice to see by the comments that I’m not the only one who would rather do a little seasonal decorating and isn’t into Halloween shenanigans. Oh sure, we carve pumpkins, but that’s for the roasted seeds! And we have a skeleton who lounges on our porch swing on Halloween night … but we play it low-key, for sure!
Karen B. said:
D’Arcy, I was relieved I didn’t receive any hate mail from Halloween *enthusiasts. *I do love the more subtle decorations for the boo holiday, but it works since most of those carry you through until its time for Christmas decorating. xo, Karen

Halloween is not my thing either, so I just decorate for Fall. So many great images and ideas.

Hi Elizabeth,
I guess I’m happy that the decorations for both Halloween and Thanksgiving can overlap. Ha! 🙂
Thanks so much for stopping by, I enjoy your site.

Karen I loved this post, but I love Halloween and seeing how others decorate. I enjoy both the pretty decor and the scary stuff myself because I see it from the kid’s perspective. And kids think it’s fun to walk up to a spooky home! We can’t forget it’s for the kids. Although I love the idea of anyone dressing up no matter what their age…to me it says what a fun person they must be.
Karen B. said:
Leslie, Do you watch Modern Family? Last nights episode said it all for me…Claire love the gore and Phil loves the nonsense. Guess which one I resemble? 🙂 xo, Karen

When the kids were little we used to decorate for Halloween. Now, like you, I decorate for Fall with mainly natural things. I loved all the white pumpkins in so many of the photos. Maybe I need to incorporate those in next years design.

I saw a group of white pumpkins that were made to look like Orlof from Frozen. xo, Karen

Good morning dearest Karen! Thank you for such a lovely visit last night and such kind words of understanding! Some people don’t care for posts that touch on dreaming, imagination, etc….but there is more than what’s on the surface, isn’t there! Our lives are only possible through dreaming, planning, acting out on those plans….and making possibilities real. Thank you again for such a kind comment and support! ENJOY the seasons as they approach with all their hopes and dreams! XOXOXO Anita
